22 Killed In Road Accident In India's Uttar Pradesh State

NEW DELHI, Feb. 24 (Bernama) -- At least 22 people were killed in India's Uttar Pradesh state on Saturday when the tractor trolley in which they were travelling fell into a pond.

The victims, many of them women and children, were going to perform a Hindu bathing ritual in the Ganga river.

The tractor-trolley overturned and fell into the eight-foot-deep pond while the tractor driver was trying to overtake another vehicle, according to local media reports.

It was carrying more than 50 people and many were injured, the reports said.

"The loss of lives in a road accident in Kasganj district is extremely heart-wrenching," Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said in a social media post.

"District administration officials have been instructed to provide proper free treatment to all the injured," he added.
