Jordan And Iraq Sign The Electrical Interconnection Agreement

Baghdad / NINA / -Jordan and Iraq signed today, Sunday, the first amendment document to the contract for the sale of electrical energy to supply the Iraqi side with electrical energy at a voltage of 132 kilovolts to feed al-Rutba region’s loads estimated at about 40 megawatts.

According to the Jordanian Ammon News Agency, Jordan and Iraq signed the agreement within the framework of establishing the joint synchronous electrical interconnection, which will contribute to enhancing the exchange of electrical energy and stabilizing the electrical systems on both sides, which will be a major part of the joint Arab energy market in the future.

The Director General of the Jordanian National Electricity Company, Amjad Al-Rawashdeh, said, "All technical procedures for the first phase have been completed, and the Iraqi side is now ready to receive electricity. Work will be done to complete some banking procedures between the two parties in preparation for starting to supply the Iraqi side with about 40 megawatts within the first phase, while work is currently underway to equip it. The second phase is expected to take place during the third quarter of this year.

He explained, “After the completion of the second phase, the total capacity that will be supplied to Iraq will be about 150-200 megawatts, and with the development of the connection stages in the medium term, the amount of supply could reach 500 megawatts.”/End
