International Forum of Journalists Concludes in Havana with Participation of QNA

Havana, January 23 (QNA) - The International Forum of Journalists, which was inaugurated by President of the Republic of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel and organized by Cuba's Prensa Latina News Agency under the title 'New Operation Truth', concluded it activities after two days with the participation of Qatar News Agency (QNA) and more than 70 participants from 34 countries representing various media outlets, including ministers, officials, media figures, journalists, and experts.
The second day of the Forum witnessed a morning session that included a keynote speech titled, 'Cuba and its Relations with the World', followed by a discussion session related to the 'New World Information Order, a pending challenge in the 21st century', with comments from experts from several countries.
It also included another session for a number of experts on current issues in the world of journalism, in addition to a symposium titled, 'News Agencies in the Hypermedia Era: from Cable Dispatch to Multimedia News."
The Forum discussed the challenges of communication in current times and the need to build a new international information system that prevents the dissemination of false information and news, in addition to many issues related to the circulation of news.
Participants in the Forum had the opportunity to exchange ideas with Cuban authorities and experts. The Forum also worked to share and exchange the latest new information technologies and ways to increase the attractiveness of published content.
The Forum's programs included presentations by personnel and experts in the field of media and communication.
The Forum celebrated the 65th anniversary of Operation Truth that took place at the call of the former Cuban leader Fidel Castro to refute the media campaigns directed against the Cuban Revolution. The operation, which was held in 1959 and was considered at the time the largest press conference in the world, brough together more than 400 foreign journalists in Havana to examine the emerging Cuban political process, which was the target of massive smear campaigns by major foreign media.
This meeting also highlighted the importance of Latin America and the Caribbean having their own voice in the field of media dominated by major foreign press monopolies. Five months after this huge media event, the creation of the Cuban news agency Prensa Latina was announced.
Prensa Latina News Agency revealed a book commemorating the 65th anniversary of Operation Truth, titled 'Prensa Latina, Voice of the Global South.' The book consists of 80 pages and includes extensive information related to Operation Truth 1959 and its heroes.
Prensa Latina is a news agency affiliated with the Cuban government. Its headquarters are located in the Cuban capital, Havana. It has permanent correspondents in 35 countries and collaborators in dozens of other countries. (QNA)
