AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023: Jordan Face Korea Republic on Saturday

Doha, January 19 (QNA) - Jordan will take on Korea Republic on Saturday in the second round of Group E of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023.

            Jordan were at their sizzling best in a 4-0 victory over Malaysia on Matchday One while Korea Republic defeated Bahrain 3-1, the AFC website reported. 

            Korea Republic are unbeaten against Jordan in five overall meetings (W3 D2), conceding just two goals and keeping four clean sheets, while their only meeting in the AFC Asian Cup in 2004 ended in a goalless draw.

            Jordan are unbeaten in five AFC Asian Cup games (W3 D2), outscoring opponents 8-1. The 4-0 win against Malaysia on Matchday One was their joint-biggest result in the competition alongside a 5-1 victory over Palestine in 2015.

            Korea Republic have won eight consecutive AFC Asian Cup group stage matches following their victory over Bahrain on Matchday One.

            Forward Yazan Al Naimat created three chances and made two assists from his 11 successful passes and also won a penalty against Malaysia, becoming the second ever Jordan player to make more than one assist in an AFC Asian Cup game after Abdallah Salim against Palestine in 2015.

            Lee Kang-In (22y 330d) scored a brace against Bahrain last time out to become the first Korea Republic player to score multiple goals in an AFC Asian Cup game before turning 23 since Son Heung-Min (22y 198d) did so against Uzbekistan in the 2015 quarter-finals. (QNA)
