National Day/ Korea's Ambassador to QNA: Qatar a Mediator Renowned Globally in Resolving Conflicts
Doha, December 19 (QNA) - HE Ambassador of South Korean to the State Joon-Ho Lee highlighted the State of Qatar's big role in mediation globally, and the role the country plays in lowering tensions in several regions and conflicts, in addition to its role in encouraging dialogue and rejecting violence, saying it helped make a big difference in terms of international peace and security. He also said that Qatar's role as a peacemaker will become more important over the years and as conflicts grow.
Speaking to Qatar News Agency on the occasion of the National Day, His Excellency said that "Korea and Qatar have a long-standing friendship. And I believe that we are currently in the prime of our relationship. The Korean President's first state visit to Qatar, as well as the excellent meeting with His Highness last October, highlighted our robust ties. During the meeting the two leaders decided to upgrade our bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership and to deepen our cooperation in fields such as energy, smart farms, artificial intelligence, databases, infrastructure and investment." He noted that next year will mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. He also said that there are expectations those ties will grow even more, as there is a real opportunity for cooperation and bilateral relations, highlighting that the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in particular has drawn more interest from Korea's youth population to Qatar.
Concluding his remarks to QNA, HE the ambassador said that the World Cup in Qatar last year was an enormous success, drawing large numbers of visitors, including many Korean football fans. He added that it was also an excellent opportunity to highlight the country's openness and hospitality, expressing his hope that the international events that will be held in Qatar, especially the Asian Football Cup, will constitute an incentive to bring together different people and cultures, as well as promote dialogue and peace.
