The ceremony honoring the winners of the 7th edition of the Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence (ACE) Award, was held today at the convention center in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent. During the ceremony, he said that the United Nations has intensified its efforts to enhance the integration of assistance in the fight against corruption over the years. He added that a task force has been established dedicated to combating corruption, fostering synergy within the UN system, leading to a common international position to combat global corruption. He pointed out the clear link between corruption and crime, the exploitation of illicit resources, human trafficking, drugs, and weapons.

He highlighted the negative impact of corruption on human rights, particularly in conflict situations and their various repercussions, hindering economic growth, human development, and threatening international peace and security. He also discussed the efforts and roles of the United Nations in combating corruption, underscoring the importance of emphasizing accountability culture, respect for the rule of law, and recognizing corruption as a fundamental cause of conflict.

Concluding his remarks, he stressed that combating corruption is a long-term process, and achieving clear and early successes is challenging. He pointed out however the importance of laying the groundwork for sustainable development and improving the quality of assistance provided to member states in the field of rule of law based on their requests.
