UN Special Advocate on Prevention of Corruption Hails Efforts of HH the Amir in Combating Corruption Globally

Tashkent, December 19 (QNA) - HE UN Special Advocate on the Prevention of Corruption Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Marri hailed the efforts of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani in combating the scourge of corruption, and noted that the world is yet to overcome it.
In his speech during the award ceremony of the 7th edition of Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence (ACE) Award in Tashkent on Tuesday, His Excellency said that the award is part of HH the Amir's efforts in combating this dangerous scourge that threatens peace and security, which the UN and various world countries could not address. He indicated that the award, which was established in 2014, came as support by HH the Amir to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goal 16, which is related to achieving development, peace, justice, and building strong institutions.
HE Dr. Al Marri noted HH the Amir's role in promoting global peace, in addition to His Highness's role in combating corruption. In this context, he said that they see that HH the Amir has gone beyond this fight against corruption to fight a war fiercer than the previous one, which is to promote peace and stand with the honorable and upright wherever they are, making world eyes fixed on Doha and HH the Amir as he carries the nations concerns.
His Excellency stressed that the fight against corruption cannot achieve its goals unless there is a clear political will to support the fighters against this scourge. He indicated that in no way can there be a fight against corruption unless there is real support from the head of power in this country or that, and unless there is a clear political will to support the fighters against this scourge.
His Excellency added that strong and honest rulers are the only ones capable of protecting their countries from corruption, and they are the ones capable of taking their people toward the future. He pointed to the cities that hosted the award ceremony of the Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award during previous years, which included Vienna - Geneva, Kuala Lumpur, followed by Kigali - Rwanda, Tunisia, then Doha in 2022 in conjunction with the 2022 World Cup, and Tashkent in 2023.
His Excellency highlighted that the decision to choose Tashkent for the award ceremony did not come out of nowhere, but rather after extensive studies of the efforts of the Republic of Uzbekistan to combat corruption at the legislative and executive levels, which led to the arrest of several corrupt people under the direct guidance of HE the President of Uzbekistan.
In conclusion of his speech, HE UN Special Advocate on the Prevention of Corruption Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Marri congratulated the winners of this year, stressing that the award will represent a genuine support for winners to continue their journey in that difficult road. (QNA)
