Indian politician asks Obama to change words into deeds

New Delhi, June 13, IRNA -- Welcoming the US President Barack Hussain Obama's speech in Cairo on June 4, an Indian leader Saturday asked Obama to change his words into deeds.

In an exclusive interview with IRNA, Shoaib Iqbal, member of Legislative Assembly of Delhi, said, "Obama's speech generally signalled a promising beginning for a new era in the relationship between the United States and the Arab and Islamic worlds, paving the way for a real dialogue between civilizations, but words must be followed by deeds, especially on the Palestine issue.

"Islamic world does not need moral or political sermons. It needs a fundamental change in American policy beginning from a halt to complete support for Israeli aggression on Palestinians," said Shaoib.

Adding that Obama should pressurize Israel to stop blockade and remove settlements in the West Bank.

Expressing serious concern over the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, the Indian legislator said, "Several months after the end of the hostilities, nothing beyond basic needs such as food and medicine is allowed in."

He asked the US president to put pressure on Israel to lift the seize of Gaza immediately and allow in the fuel, funds and materials that are urgently required to repair destroyed and damaged schools, clinics, sanitation networks and shelters.

Turning on Iran-US standoff over Iran's nuclear program, Shoaib, leader of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) asked Obama, if he is serious, he should lift all illegal sanctions against Iran as Iran has undertaken certain obligations that its nuclear program is exclusively for peaceful purposes, and it has the right to pursue its nuclear program for peaceful civilian use.

Rejecting the illegal sanctions against Iran, Indian lawmaker contended that when Iran is actively cooperating with the International Atomic Engery Agency (IAEA), these sanctions are undermining the credibility of the IAEA.

Condemning illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan, Shoaib Iqbal, former deputy speaker of Delhi Assembly, called on the US to remove the occupation at the earliest, beside stopping of killing of innocent civilians there, then only the latest statements by President Obama are undoubtedly a step in the right direction.

"Obama has set the bar high and his every word and action will be watched keenly," said the Indian politician adding that Obama has delivered enough words and promises, and now 'it's time for some action, and more of it, to realize his objectives'.

Referring to Iran's Presidential election, held Friday, Indian leader while praising Dr. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's policies, said, "The people of Iran have the more than enough capabilities to choose the leader, but Ahmadinejad, despite the US and its allies opposition, imposition of illegal sanctions, restored Iran's pride as now world is calling that 'Nuclear energy is Iran's right', concluded Shoaib Iqbal
