Japan, China to Agree on Stronger Environment Cooperation

Tokyo, June 3 (Jiji Press)--Japan and China are expected to agree
to boost cooperation in environmental protection and energy conservation at
a ministerial economic dialogue here on Sunday, informed sources said
Tuesday.
At the meeting, the second of its kind, Japan also plans to
reiterate its request that China scrap the planned certification scheme for
information technology security products, according to the sources.
Since the compulsory scheme, slated to be introduced in May 2010,
calls for detailed information disclosure, there are concerns that it could
lead to confidential information such as software design being leaked.
The dialogue brings together ministers related to economic matters
from the two countries. The first meeting took place in Beijing in December
2007.
The economic dialogue is aimed at promoting a mutually beneficial
strategic partnership.
The coming Tokyo meeting will be co-chaired by Japanese Foreign
Minister Hirofumi Nakasone and Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan.
Among other issues, the two sides are expected to agree to
cooperate in securing water resources in China's rural areas. They will also
discuss their response to the global financial and economic crises.
