Nations Moving Toward Strong Sanctions on N. Korea

New York, June 1 (Jiji Press)--Japanese and other envoys Monday
confirmed efforts to pursue a U.N. Security Council resolution that will
include strong sanctions on North Korea for its nuclear test last week.

The envoys from seven countries, also including the United States
and China, shared a view that North Korea's preparations for a long-range
missile launch can also be regarded as an act of provocation.
China apparently made detailed comments after keeping its position
unclear in previous talks.
The seven countries were making progress, U.S. Ambassador to the
United Nations Susan Rice told reporters after emerging from the meeting.
Discussion went deep into details, Japanese Ambassador Yukio Takasu
told reporters. There is a consensus that a resolution should be strong, he
said.
Chinese Ambassador Zhang Yesui said many ideas are being discussed.
His deputy, Liu Zhenmin, confirmed that China is actively participating in
the talks.
The seven countries try to pass a resolution by the end of this
week.
