Japan’s FM talks to Mottaki on phone

Japan’s Foreign Minister Hirofumi Nakasone in a phone talk with counterpart Manouchehr Mottaki Monday evening exchanged ideas on issues of mutual interest.

According to IRNA Political Desk, Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported Tuesday that Nakasone in the phone talk appreciated the Iranian officials for preparing the ground for release from prison of Iranian-American journalist, Roxana Saberi, whose mother is Japanese.
Roxana Saberi had been arrested in January 2009, accused of espionage services for the United States and sentenced to an eight year imprisonment term, but was released from prison last week when an appeals court decreased the sentence into a two year suspended term and flew to America along with her parents.
Nakasone said that the move was quite a praiseworthy one.
According to the report, Mottaki told the Japanese FM that he, too, is glad that the Iranian judiciary system reconsidered Saberi’s case in an appeals court simultaneously with his visit of Tehran and that it was possible to release Roxana from prison.
Nakasone in the phone talk once again expressed hope that Iran would take creative steps aimed at solving Iran’s nuclear program and for resuming ties with the United States.
