2020 recorded as one of the 6th warmest years since 1940

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. The average temperature for Mongolia in 2020 has been 1.1°C, making the year one of the 6th warmest years recorded since 1940, reported the National Agency of Meteorology and Environment. For instance, the temperature increased from +6.0 to +9.6°С in the southern Gobi region and the desert areas near the Altai Mountains, from +2.0 to +5.0°С in the plains and near the depression of the Great Lakes, from -4.0 to -8.0°С in the Khangai Mountains and near the depression of Darkhad, and from -1.0 to +2.0°С in other areas of the country. During the winter, it was lower than average in the aimags of Khovd, Zavkhan, Gobi-Altai, Bayankhongor, and Khentii, with the temperature dropping from -2.5 to -4.4°С in two soums of Zavkhan aimag, two soums of Khovd aimag, and the northern parts of Bayankhongor aimag. As for the aimags of Bayan-Ulgii, Uvs, Selenge, and some parts of Darkhan-Uul aimag, the temperature was higher than average by 1.0 to 1.5°С. During spring, the temperature was higher than average throughout the country, with the aimags of Bayan-Ulgii, Khovd, and Gobi-Altai being higher by 3.0 to 4.1°С. During summer, the aimags of Uvurkhangai, Dundgobi, Umnugobi and some parts of Tuv aimag saw temperatures that were 1.0 to 1.9°С above average, while some parts of Khovd, Uvs, and Bayan-Ulgii aimags were lower than average by -1 to -1.5°С. During autumn, the temperature in the northern and northeastern regions was 1.0 to 2.2°С above average, with the rest of the country seeing average temperatures. Compared to the average temperatures for the last 5 years, the temperatures for the first 5 months of 2020 were 1.1°С to 5°С above average, with April having the warmest average temperature. The average temperature for summer months was about average, whereas December saw below average temperatures.
