Use of child labor declined in Kyrgyzstan - Federation of Trade Unions

Bishkek, July 2, 2018. / Kabar /. The use of child labor has declined in Kyrgyzstan, Ryskul Babayeva deputy chairwoman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Kyrgyzstan told journalists during the meeting of the Sustainable Development Goals working group. It should be noted that the working group was established jointly with representatives of the International Labor Organization (ILO). The ILO supports the work of the Federation of Trade Unions in the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. "Now we are talking about the scale of child labor. But in general, the problem is not yet uprooted, "she said. Babayeva said that the largest percentage of child labor is in the markets, cleaning and painting shoes, work on the tobacco, rice and cotton fields. "A small percentage reduction is achieved. But the use of child labor as it was, has remained, " said the vice-president of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Kyrgyz Republic. Ryskul Babayeva said that the Federation of Trade Unions raised the issue of forced labor and the exploitation of child labor. "And now, through the committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on social policy, the government has been instructed to ratify Convention No. 29 on Forced Labor, adopted by the UN in 2014. For us, this is a real achievement. This means that now we must create a working group either at the level of the parliament or at the level of the Cabinet," Babayeva added.
