Iranian, Omani speakers meet

Tehran, March 7, IRNA – Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani Saturday morning met and conferred with his Omani counterpart Sheikh Mohammad bin Salim al-Isaie.

Larijani, heading a delegation, arrived in Khartoum, Sudan, on Friday on a one-day visit to show objection of Iran and the Islamic countries to the illogical ruling by the Hague Tribunal which has issued an arrest warrant for Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir.

En-route to Tehran, the Iranian delegation had a stop over in Muscat, Oman, during which Larijani reviewed the latest regional developments with his Omani counterpart.

During the visit, the Iranian speaker expressed hope that appropriate solutions would be found to the critical situation in Palestine and Sudan during the upcoming session of The Arab Interparliamentary Union (IPU) to be held in Oman.

He said Tehran is satisfied with its amicable ties with Muscat and believes that Oman plays a key role in the Persian Gulf developments.

He referred to the issue of Palestine as a major issue of the World of Islam, saying that settlement of the Palestinian problem is in need of all-out cooperation by all Muslim states.

For his part, the Omani speaker condemned the massacre of defenseless people in Gaza and Iraq and denounced the inaction of international bodies against the anti-human crimes in several Islamic countries.

He further condemned the arrest warrant issued by the Hague Tribunal for the Sudanese president.

He stressed that Muscat is to encourage the participating countries in the Arab IPU to make a serious and powerful decision on the recent move against Sudan./end
