Iran’s cooperation would ensure reliable security in Persian Gulf, says Putin’s spokesman

Moscow, March 6, IRNA – Spokesman of Russian prime minister pointing out that Moscow is ready for cooperation in any type of joint security pact in Persian Gulf today, said yet ensuring reliable security there can only be achieved with Iran’s active participation.

According to IRNA correspondent in Moscow, Dimitri Peskov made the comment in an interview with Russia’s official radio station, Voice of Russia (VOR), adding, “Keeping in mind the importance of ensuring the security of the Persian Gulf as the key and strategic rout for transferring the oil required for the world economy, taking advantage of Iran’s cooperation to reach that end is a dire necessity.”

The spokesman of the Russian prime minister who has served as Putin’s spokesman ever since he was the Russian president further emphasized, “Segregation of Iran would only inflict losses against the international community.”

He added, “Moscow favors the establishment of direct political talks between Tehran and Washington regarding Iran’s nuclear program and in order to reach that end both sides need to take steps aimed at trust building.”

Peskov then turned to the United States’ decision to station its missile site and radar station in Eastern Europe, referred to Friday talks between Russian and American officials in Geneva, and said, “If the US plan in that respect would be revised, or proposals ensuring Russian interests would be put forth, they would be positive signs.”

He emphasized that Russia is also ready for taking part in establishment of a European security apparatus, saying, “If our partners are really concerned about missile threats from other regional countries we are ready for negotiation with them regarding those threats.”

On phony pretext of missile threat from some countries, Washington intends to station ten of its ballistic missile interceptors in Poland and a radar station in Czech Republic, having signed respective agreements with both governments./end
