UNICEF projects pay off in central province
Ninh Thuan (VNA) - A working team from the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) Office in Vietnam praised the results of children friendship and behavior change communication projects in central Ninh Thuan province.
During a working visit to the central province from Feb. 25 to March 2, the team
said that the UNICEP-funded projects have been implemented effectively with public
awareness of child care having been improved in almost all targeted areas.
However, the rate of undernourished children remains high in the locality, the
working team said, pledging to suggest UNICEF give more support to Ninh Thuan
province to better its child malnutrition prevention.
The "Children's Friendship" project has so far established a number of friendly
schools with more than 3,700 primary pupils and 1,240 pre-school pupils. It has
also helped improve capacity for nearly 680 educators.
Meanwhile, the programme on communication and behavior change activities has
improved the capacity for over 590 healthcare workers and provided equipment and
medicine for 2,200 women of reproductive age.
The programme has held training courses on clean water and environmental hygiene
for 520 officers and carried out a number of water supply projects, benefiting
over 8,500 local people.-Enditem
