Doi Tung organises fair, featuring flowers, handicrafts
CHIANG RAI, Dec 3 (TNA) - Doi Tung, a mountain in the northernmost province of Chiang Rai, has organised a two-month fair, starting from Sunday, showcasing varieties of flowers in temperate zones and hill tribe handicrafts.
M.L. Dispanadda Diskul, chairman of Mae Fah Luang Foundation under the Royal Patronage, has presided over the opening ceremony of the 4th Colourful Doi Tung today.
The fair allows people to walk near Doi Tung royal villa, former residence of the late Princess Mother Srinagarindra, the mother of the His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. It is the highest walkway in Thailand because it is 1,100 metres above the mean sea level. Visitors will also enjoy seeing flowers in temperate zones amid cool weather with temperatures ranging between 10 – 15 degrees Celsius on the top of the mountain.
Among those highlights at the fair include an art exhibition, which displays the mixture of local intellectual of hill tribe people and urban architects to tell the story of the late Princess Mother’s development projects there.
Local food, handicrafts, farm products grown by six hill tribe groups are available for selling at the fair.
The fair will be held every Saturday, Sunday and public holidays from now on until January 28.
Approximately, 160,000 people visited the last year’s event while organizers project that the number would rise to 180,000 this year. (TNA)
