IRIB chief meets Afghan President Karzai

Tehran, Feb 23, IRNA - Afghanistan`s President Hamid Karzai described the Farsi language as
a world heritage and stressed the need to further promote it through
cultural products.

He made the remarks during a meeting with head of the Islamic Republic
of Iran Broadcasting Ezzatollah Zarghami.

The Afghan president criticized the approach adopted by western media
which was based on censoring the news pertaining to countries in the
eastern hemisphere and said it was the urgent responsibility of
regional media organizations to confront and challenge such a policy.

Pointing to the huge investments made by western countries on
satellite channels, he proposed mutual sponsoring of a media satellite
by Afghanistan and Iran.

Zarghami outlined the influential role of media in forming and leading
world public opinions and said it was the duty of governments to fully
implement the existing capacities to produce distinguished media works.
