HCM City launches campaign against poor-quality foods

HCM City (VNA) - An intensive examination of powdered milk, alcohol, cigarettes,
canned and bottled drinks started in Ho Chi Minh City on Feb. 12.

Investigators of the ministries of industry and trade, health and public security
began assessing the quality criteria for these products and supervising their
manufacture.

The examination includes their packaging, labelling, transport and sale.

The HCM City food and hygiene board, which has charge of the investigation,
says the results will be lodged with the city's health department before Feb. 15.

Products without labels or quality proclamation would be seized and their
manufacturers fined while improper-quality products would be recycled or
destroyed, said HCM City Health Department deputy director Le Truong Giang.

The examination follows a report from Minister of Health Nguyen Quoc Trieu that
confirms that low-quality milk is available on the market.-Enditem
