Spain offers help to INTACH to develop Santi Niketan

New Delhi, Feb 9 (PTI) Spain Monday offered its help to
INTACH to conserve and develop the 'Santi Niketan', the
university founded by Rabindranath Tagore, in West Bengal.

Spain's Ambassador Ion De la Riva Guzman de Frutos, an
alumni of the Santi Niketan university, said India and
agencies like INTACH should preserve and protect places like
the varsity in the state which defines the cultural heritage
of India.

"Tagore was a wonderful poet and he is liked by many in
Spain and Latin America. Many of his works have been
translated in Spanish and other languages," he said.

"Along with conserving ancient heritages and monuments,
India should also conserve and protect Santi Niketan which
teaches the values of India," De la Riva said after signing a
MoU with INTACH here.

"Tagore has a special place in the hearts of Spanish.
India and Spain have lived back-to-back many times and they
have many things in common," he said.

The Ambassador said he will ask the Spanish authorities
to visit Santi Niketan along with a team from INTACH and
discuss ways for cooperation.

Santi Niketan is a famous university town in West Bengal.
It has become a tourist spot because of its association with
Rabindranath Tagore. PTI ETB
