Laos and China step up border cooperation initiatives
(KPL) Laos and China are carrying out more border cooperation initiatives in order to solve social problems found in the border areas and this was discussed during the recent Laos-China Border Meeting, in Vientiane on 15 December.
The meeting was attended by Mr Phouhkao Phommavongsa, Head of Office of the National Border Committee of Laos of this country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Mr Ouyang Yujing, the Advisor on International Convention of Law of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Representatives of various ministries and provinces were also at this meeting.
The Lao and Chinese delegates of this meeting agreed that goods from third countries be allowed to enter and exit freely through the two border check points of Laos and China, Borten in the Lao side and Mohan in China.
Regarding another two border check points of the two countries called Lan Tui Check Point, located in the Nhot-ou district of Phongsaly and Khan district of Yunnan province, the Lao and Chinese representatives agreed that border pass holders be allowed to pass and also be permitted to transport their goods and vehicles past the check points.
