Four hundred sixty million kip to keep Vientiane clean
Four hundred sixty million kip to keep Vientiane clean
(KPL) As some of the trucks that carry earth, stones and sand are overloaded and so they spill some of their contents on the road. Roadside stall holders, vehicle repair shop proprietors and Vientiane residents are also responsible for throwing their unwanted rubbish throughout Vientiane Capital.
How can this city overcome the littering problem? Vientiane Urban Development Administration Authority’s answer to this is to convene a meeting to brainstorm and it was held at the Vientiane Administration Office on 11 December.
This meeting was chaired by the Vice Major of Vientiane, Mr. Bounchan Sinthavong. Six district chiefs and representatives of interested bodies were also present.
They focused on how to fine tune the proposal for the Clean Vientiane Project, with emphasis on the achievement of a clean and sanitized environment for the residents.
Another area that they dealt with is how to mobilize the Vientiane people to be involved in the campaign to make her clean, lightening, green, secure, charming and civilized.
Though this campaign is already in its second year but up to date the problem of random throwing of rubbish persists.
In order to overcome this impasse, the participants of this meeting proposed the setting up of five checkpoints to check on trucks and other measures to catch litter bugs.
It is estimated that the Clean Vientiane Project needs 460 million kip per month to maintain the cleanliness of its public parks and to pay for the cleanliness campaigns and it will cover: Chanthaburi, Sikhottabong, Sisattanak, Saysettha, Hadsayfong, Nasaythong and Saythany.
