Indian embassy holds painting competition
(KPL) The embassy of India organises a painting competition for children in various age groups on annual basis in Vientiane.
The first competition was held in January 2007 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Laos and India.
This year’s event is expected to attract over 250 children, which is the largest number since the competition has been ever held.
A jury comprising nominees from the Ministry of Education and representatives of the Embassy of India will select three top winners in each age category. These entries will then be sent to the Shankar’s International Children’s Competition for 2009.
“We wish them all the best to win the prize in the International Competition,” Indian Ambassador to Laos Mr. Suresh Kumar Goel. “Prizewinners of today’s painting competition will be given awards at a function to be held at the Embassy of India, Vientiane, at a later date.”
The children have come from more than ten different schools and have been divided into different age categories like 7-9 years, 10-12 years and 13-15 years.
The age group of 7-9 years will paint on the theme of a day in the school or a day with the family, children in the age group of 10-12 years will paint about Lao cultural scene or Lao life along the Mekong river, which is the most important economic and social vessel in this country and children in the age group 13-15 years will paint on their impressions of Indian influence in Laos.
Through the painting competition, we hope that the children will develop their creative powers. The painting competition on the spot compels them to innovate, use the powers of imagination for best results and think on the spot. It helps in their education and overall development.
The competition such as this also encourages the healthy spirit of competition and friendship amongst the children.
Through such competition, we also attempt to build permanent friends between Laos and India who will enhance good relations between our two countries in future.
