8th national Games officially opens in Champassak
(KPL) The 8th National Games was officially opened on 13 December in Champassak province which was attended by former President Khamtay Siphandone and Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh and leaders of Champassak province.
The 24 sports to be contested at the games are athletics, swimming, volleyball, badminton, basketball, football, boxing, muay lao, petanque, tennis, table tennis, sepak takraw, shooting, taekwondo, cycling, pencak silat, boat racing, golf, snooker, top spinning, crossbow, bowling, karatedo and judo.
Various performances of traditional dances, acrobatics and other entertaining acts performed at the inauguration ceremony.
Around 6,900 athletes from many provinces and ministries joined the games, which run from December 13 to 22. Luang Prabang province will host the ninth National Games in 2011.
