Sacombank expands branch to Laos

(KPL) A Giant Vietnamese bank “Saigon Thuong Tin Commercial Joint Stock Bank” or Sacombank based in Ho Chin Minh City, Vietnam opened last Friday its branch in Vientiane Capital with an aim to provide more opportunities to domestic and foreign investors access to financial sources amid global financial crisis.
The Sacombank is one of the leading banks in Vietnam. The inauguration ceremony held last week made surprise among private banks.
Chairman of Sacombank, Mr Dang Van Thanh said his bank initially put US$ 6 million of registered capital to establish the Sacombank’s branch in Laos.
He said that the establishment of Sacombank in Laos aimed to promote the investments, trade, tourism and business units through providing financial sources.
However the Sacombank also disclosed that next year, it would increase more registered capital from US$ 6 million to US$ 12 million as a form that will lead to be perfect bank.
Mr Thanh said that if the expansion of the branch in Laos was successful it would expand its branches to Cambodia, Australia and USA by 2015 because a lot of Vietnamese people living in those countries.
The inauguration ceremony of Sacombank’s branch was attended by Mr Phouphet Khamphounvong, Governor of Bank Lao PRD, Mr Dang Van Thanh, Chairman of Sacombank of Vietnam as well as high-ranking officials.
