Public urged to prepare for the 17th APPF
(KPL) The Lao National Assembly held a press conference urging the society to participate in the preparation for the 17th Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF), which will be held in Vientiane on 11-15 January 2009.
More than 300 delegates from 32 member states and observer countries have confirmed their participation to the meeting. “To organise the meeting the government has to spend 2.8 billion kip,” said Vice President of the National Assembly, Mr. Saysomphone Phomvihane. “So far we have received assistance from seven businessmen and state enterprises, which is totally worth over 100 million kip.”
He said that it was the first time Laos has been chosen for hosting the forum since it gained membership to the forum in 1996.
It is an opportunity for Laos to raise itself at the international arena, culture and way of life of the Lao people will be shown to the international community.
If individuals and organisations want to donate and contribute to the preparation for the meeting they could contract with the National Assembly’s secretariat through telephone number (021) 413507 and mobile: 9801056, 9801060 or Fax: 413547. The due of donation is 1 January 2009.
