Shura Council, Amnesty International reject violence and terrorism

Manama, May. 6. (BNA) Shura Council Human Rights Committee Chairperson Dr. Aisha Salem Mubarak held a meeting here today with the Deputy Director of the Middle East and North Africa Programme at Amnesty International Said Boumedouha, in the presence of the committee's members. Dr. Mubarak welcomed Boumedouha, and praised the efforts exerted by the organisation to protect and maintain human rights around the world. They reviewed the Shura Council's achievements in the human rights field, and efforts to adapt laws and local legislations to the international human rights conventions and laws, signed by the Kingdom of Bahrain. The committee members and Amnesty International's representative denouced all forms of violence and terrorism, agreeing on the importance of cooperation and promotion of the human rights culture among the members of the Bahraini society. The committee members affirmed the importance of the organisation's work and support of all actions that ensure human rights protection, confirming the committee's keenness to build a community that rejects hatred and encourages diversity and peaceful co-existence. The members highlighted Bahrain's status in the human rights field through passing laws and legislations, including the law against domestic violence, child law and other laws, as well as establishing organisations, governmental authorities and civil and independent bodies that support and protect the human rights in the kingdom.
