The author reminds that Azerbaijan`s re-elected president Ilham Aliyev was
inaugurated on October 24 for a second five-year term. Expectedly, voters gave
Aliyev a strong mandate for continuing his policies. International observers noted
clear improvements in the electoral process compared with previous electoral cycles.
The article says if it were situated in a less dangerous neighborhood, Azerbaijan
would undoubtedly achieve even more successes.
Political ingredients of success - internal stability and security, statesmanship at
the top, a secular path of development, and external orientation towards the West
ensures Azerbaijan`s accomplishments.
On the economic growth of Azerbaijan the article stresses 700,000 jobs created
recently in the country.
V. Socor also praised Azerbaijan`s contribution to the West`s energy security saying
“European energy security policy remains a common agenda with Azerbaijan and
Georgia, its prospects linked to these countries` national independence and
security.”
The author also stressed that Azerbaijan`s EU and U.S. partners must try seriously
to kick-start Nabucco and hold negotiations to remove obstacles to the transit of
