50 Days to Go For the 2013 National Sport Day
Doha, December 23 (QNA) - With just 50 days to go, Qatar Olympic Committee gears up for the second edition of the National Sport Day.
The National Sport day is celebrated every second Tuesday of February and is an initiative adopted by HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Heir Apparent.
Across the country, ministries, government departments, public and private sector organisations and sports clubs will be organising sporting activities for all on February 12, 2013. The event aims to create awareness about sports and its health benefits.
Qatar’s National Sport Day is also a further example of the country’s commitment to sport, in addition to the Schools Olympic Programme , which encourages schoolchildren to practice sport as an integral part of their daily life.
On February 12, QOC will open all sports clubs and facilities, allowing everyone, men, women, children and persons with disabilities to practice and enjoy sporting activities. Events at the Corniche, Aspire, Al Rafaa Street, Barzan and the Olympic Park will demonstrate the importance of sport in daily life, in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The Qatar Olympic Committee wants to promote sports, physical education and sustainable development, further enhancing the Qatar National Vision 2030.
Additionally, a Sport Zone will be set up by QOC near the Corniche, featuring all day sport and recreational activities open for all, from February 12 till 16. Qatar is one of the few nations worldwide to dedicate a Day of Sport for its society. (QNA)
