Qatar and Britain Sign Cooperation Agreement
London, December 19 (QNA) - The State of Qatar and the United Kingdom today signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of public prosecution aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries in this field.
The memorandum was signed for the State of Qatar by HE the Attorney General Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al-Marri and for the United Kingdom by Attorney General for England and Wales Dominic Grieve. The Memorandum aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation between public prosecution offices in both countries and to exchange information in their field of work as well as to exchange training and introductory courses between the two sides.
The two sides held a meeting during which they exchanged views on a number of topics of common interest.
HE the Attorney General, who is currently visiting the United Kingdom, participated in a workshop organized by the Qatar Law Forum on the rule of law under the auspices of Lord Mayor of the City of London Alderman Roger Gifford.
In a speech during the workshop Dr. Al-Marri underlined the importance of the rule of law and the fight against corruption and its impact on the changes witnessed by the Arab world during the last two years. He also gave a detailed briefing on the retrieval of looted money to the Arab Spring states.
Dr. Al-Marri meanwhile referred to the great legacy of the English judicial practices and how can the United Kingdom support anti-corruption efforts and the recovery of funds benefiting from this legal legacy and accumulated experience.
For his part, the Mayor of the City of London gave a speech during the workshop's opening session in which he praised the prestigious status assumed by the State of Qatar in the field of integrity, transparency and anti-corruption.
He stressed that the prosperity of the economy and confidence in the investment in any country of the world cannot be isolated from the confidence of investors in the integrity of the legal and judicial system in those countries stressing that '' the State of Qatar is a clear example of this''.
HE the Attorney General received a certificate of appreciation from the city of London in recognition of the legal and moral obligation of the State of Qatar in the fight against corruption and the protection of integrity, consolidation of transparency and the place it now occupied in the world due to its positions that reject corruption and support the principle of the establishment of the rule of law.(QNA)
