HE the Prime Minister Calls on Syrian Regime to Stop Bloodbath
Marrakech, December 12 (QNA) - HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani on Wednesday, called on the Syrian regime to take a courageous decision in order to stop the bloodbath in Syria and to allow the Syrian people form the government they deem appropriate, expressing his belief that Bashar al-Assad's safe exit opportunities became few.
At a joint news conference with a number of foreign ministers attending the fourth ministerial meeting of the Friends of the Syrian People Group, which was held today in Morocco, HE the Prime Minister stressed the need to focus, at post Assad phase, on Syria's territorial integrity and the cohesion of the various components of its people. The international community should intervene in a clear and effective way in the reconstruction of Syria which was destroyed by the regime, HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim said.
For his part, the Moroccan Foreign Minister Saad Eddine El Othmani said that only the Syrian people can decide the way and course of political transition in Syria, stressing that the Group assist them rather than taking decisions on their behalf, expressing his belief that the Syrian people are able to overcome their ordeal, but they need help from the international community.
Addressing the news conference, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, said that this meeting sent three essential messages, namely that the Syrian people are not alone, the end of the Syrian regime is imminent, and that the international community should take the necessary steps and concrete action to alleviate the suffering of Syrians and to support the Syrian National Coalition.
Meanwhile, British Foreign Secretary William Hague, said that the time has come for the Syrian regime to put an end to what is going on in the country, calling for the expansion of the circle of recognition of the Syrian National Coalition and the provision of assistance to it in order to be ready for the next phase of transition.
Tunisian Foreign Minister Abdul Salam Rafiq said that the formation of the National Coalition of the Syrian Opposition makes Syria ready for the process of real political change, calling on the international community to provide more support for the Syrian people.
For his part, Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr, said that the situation in Syria is very serious and requires considerable effort from the international community to resolve it. (QNA)
