SEC: Applications for Education Excellence Day Awards Start Today

Doha, December 01 (QNA) - The Supreme Education Council (SEC) announced that the applications for Education Excellence Day (EED) awards start today, Saturday, and will last up to December 31. The SEC noted the effective role of the EED awards jury committees which had previously held several meetings and presentations to explain the conditions and application requirements for each category of the award. The jury committees also communicated with the interested students to compete for the award and explained the terms and conditions for each award category and answered the inquiries and questions of students. Director of the SEC Information and Communications Office and Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the EED Awards Aisha al-Kuwari, underlined the SEC readiness to receive all nominations submitted to compete for the EED awards. She noted that the Supreme Education Council has recently held an introductory meeting to highlight the Education Excellence Day (EED) award, its mission, vision and the different winning categories. Terms and conditions for eligibility for the award were also explained during the meeting in addition to the newly added components. The meeting revealed the financial and moral value of the award and the required documents to apply for each category. The meeting was attended by more than 300 SEC officials, heads and members of the EED awards jury, secondary school students, university graduates, PhD holders, teachers, school administrators and all who wished to compete for the 6th EED award, in the presence of the media. Director of the SEC Information and Communications Office and Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the EED Awards Aisha al-Kuwari urged all schools, universities and parents to encourage Qatari students and urge them to compete for the EED award and help them overcome all obstacles in order to deepen the concepts of excellence and innovation in education. The Education Excellence Day award is sponsored by HH the Heir Apparent Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Chairman of the Supreme Education Council, and is celebrated every year by the council. The EED award is granted on a competitive basis and aims to celebrate and honor outstanding students in the State of Qatar. The award is also meant to deepen the concepts of excellence, to encourage all individuals and educational institutions to improve their performance, to promote positive trends towards knowledge and scientific research, and to spread the spirit of innovation and competition among students, researchers and educational organizations in the field of scientific excellence. The EED awards includes the Excellence Award for Secondary School Certificate Students, the Excellence award for University Graduates, the Excellence award for PhD Holders, the award for Excellent Teacher, the award for Excellent School, and the award for Scientific Research. The award winners are selected by high-level judging committees made up of a group of academics and educational experts. These committees will examine the works of the candidates and interview them. The committees will also visit schools to verify and check all information and documents submitted, before announcing the final results in due transparency and objectivity. (QNA)
