Our Society Empowers Women, HE Sheikha Mayassa Says
Doha, November 27 (QNA) - Our society empowers women and puts gender equality on a high spot on as our religion commands, HE Sheikha Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani, Chairperson of the board of trustees of Qatar Museum Authority said on Tuesday.
"In many ways, in Qatar I fail to differentiate between men and women simply because my gender has never stopped me from achieving our plans, Sheikha Mayassa said addressing the audience at a COP 18 side event today under the theme 'Gender and Climate: Moving Beyond the Rhetoric' wrapping up the Gender Day.
"I have witnessed my father and mother jointly engage in the making of a nation," she added.
She pointed out to the proactive role of Qatari women in developing the nation and challenges they face on Climate Change.
"Our country looks at women through its own historical and cultural lens. I am particularly proud of how our ability to view a future world has impacted our ability to open that future to our women," she said.
Sheikha Mayassa cited the Hey Ya celebration that was recently held in Doha recognizing the talented women athletes and also was an inspiration to everyone in London during the Olympic Games.
"It showcased how our societies have in fact empowered women to excel in their own right and that our religion is very much compatible with a modern way of life. It was a full representation of how the woman in the Arab world, were part of the larger story and not simple footnotes," she said.
She also noted to the sequels of the hurricane Sandy on the world's major developed population centers that give a wake-up call on how the weather is part of the future.
"We as a country have and will continue to explore big ideas. If not, we would not be here today. If not, we will not succeed tomorrow, in a world of energy efficiency, food security, carbon footprints, in a world seeking critical answers to so many questions," Sheikha Mayassa concluded. (QNA)
