UN Climate Change Conference Discuses Equality between Men and Women

Doha, November 27 (QNA) - The ongoing UN climate change conference in Doha marked on Tuesday Gender Day, which aims at promoting equality between men and women, and appreciated the crucial role played by women in helping to tackle climate change. During the celebration, former President of the UN Conference on Climate Change Maite Nkoana-Mashabane presented a book in recognition of the role of women as well as their important role in helping to address climate change. The event was attended by HE Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah, Chairman of the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority, President of the 18th UN Conference on Climate Change, and the UNFCCC Executive Secretary Christiana Figueres, and Mary Robinson, from the Mary Robinson Foundation. Addressing the event, His Excellency Al Attiyah said, "The world needs our support, and also needs our effort to resolve the issues of climate change before it is too late." Nkoana-Mashabane, in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), said she was happy to release this book in conjunction with the celebration of Gender Day, expressing the hope that it will contribute to the extension of the Kyoto Protocol agreement during the climate talks in Doha.
