COP18 Shows Environment is Qatar's Priority, Organizing Committee Chairman Says
Doha , November 27 (QNA) - COP18 Doha General Coordinator Abdul Aziz bin Ahmed Al Malki, who is also Chairman of its Executive Organizing Committee, said Tuesday that the State of Qatar's keenness on environmental issues, since the environment was one of the pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030.
Speaking today to Qatar News Agency (QNA) today on the sidelines Al Malki said that today's session included seven workshops that took place simultaneously, for the first time in the conference. He said that the previous fact reflected the massive number of issues available for the participants to discuss.
He said that the delegation which will participate in next week's meeting will include head of states, Prime Minister and environment-related ministers among other officials as well. Al Malki expressed his hope that the efforts of the State of Qatar in hosting the conference be met with success. particularly that the conference has a number of issues on its table, he added. The conference discusses a number of issues such as the Kyoto's second commitment period, climate change among others.
On holding a UN Climate Change Conference for the first time in the Middle-East, Al Malki said that the achievement was a political success for the State of Qatar. He added that the achievement reflected the wise cultural and political vision of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
He also said that hosting COP18 adds to Qatar's many successes in holding conferences of different fields whether scientific or economic conferences as well as others. (QNA)
