Minister of State for Interior Affairs Launches Emergency Service for Deaf Community
Doha, September 17 (QNA) - HE the Minister of State for Internal Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani launched, this evening, the emergency service for the deaf community by calling the emergency number (992). The launch was in the National Command Center (NCC).
The Launch ceremony was attended by HE Director General of Public Security Major General Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi, HE Advisor to HE the Minister of State for Internal Affairs Major General Dr. Abdullah Al-Maal, the Chief of the National Command Center Brigadier Abdullah Mohammed Al Suwaidi and a number of directors of departments at the Ministry of Interior, besides the Chairman The Qatari Social Cultural Center for the Deaf (QSCCD), Ali Al-Snari, the director of customer experience at Qatar Telecom (Qtel) Ahmed Al Mohannadi, and a number of staff members of QSCCD.
HE the Minister said in statement that launching the emergency service for the deaf people is an evidence of Qatar's attention to human rights and an testament on the advanced level of development reached by the Interior ministry in its endeavors to provide quality services that meet the needs of Qatar's people and residents.
Brigadier Abdullah Mohammed Al-Suwaidi said that the new service enables the deaf community to request emergency services like ambulance, rescue and fire department, via three means, SMS, Email messages and video calls, explaining that a number of sign-language specialists were highly trained to receive the communications and deal with them properly.
