Attorney General to QNA: All Countries Express Willingness to Contribute to Asset Recovery

Doha, September 12 (QNA) - HE Qatar's Attorney General Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al-Marri expressed his belief that all the countries participating in the "Arab Forum on Asset Recovery" are ready to make every possible effort in order to contribute positively to the recovery of such Assets to the States with the right therein. HE the Attorney General said in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) that all want to commit to what would contribute to the recovery of these funds, referring to that the speech delivered of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and the participation of USA representing the G8 in addition to the speeches of the American and Tunisian Presidents are positive indicators positive indicators of what can come out of this forum. On the major countries where there are significant assets, and whether there is any sort of communication with them in order to facilitate recovering the looted Arab assets, HE the Attorney General said that the high-level representation of these countries is a sign of good and sincere intentions, particularly while the know the discussed issue. He added that these intentions will be tested immediately after the forum, pointing to work teams and direct communication with these countries. On the UN's role in asset recovery efforts, Dr. Al-Marri said that the international organization will make every possible effort to support the States with the right to these funds and , with the support of the G8 and other international groups, to put pressure on the countries that deny the rightful claims, stressing that the United Nations will be a strong party in this issue. Day 2 of the Arab Forum on Asset Recovery concluded after thorough discussions on a range of topics related to assets' investigation recovery. The participants allocated part of their time to hold bilateral meetings between a number of countries, to discuss certain issues related to the funds recovery efforts, as well as to identify and resolve any issues or certain technical challenges states may face in this regard.
