Asset Recovery Forum Participants Suggest Doha A Permanent Host
Doha, September 11 (QNA) - A number of participants attending the Arab Forum on Asset Recovery that kicked off Tuesday in Doha suggested that Qatar could be a permanent host for an Asset Recovery Forum and presiding over its first round.
Speaking at the forum's first session today, the representative of the general prosecutor in Libya, Ibrahim Al Bashir said, all efforts should be done in pursuit of creating an "internationally accredited" event concerning this regard with Qatar taking over its first convention.
Meanwhile, Yemen s representative at the forum endorsed the suggestion, underlining the urgent need to such a coordinated event, with all international and Arab communities support, in a bid to confront and resolve this issue and in the framework of Yemen to confront corruption.
He said Yemen is currently on its way to build up the judiciary institutions needed to confront corruption yet still lacks the necessary experience and resources.
For his part, Tunisian Law minister Nour Al Din Al Bahry said the asset recovery issue is now looming large and challenging the whole world's ability to take "practical steps" to confront it and that signed partnerships will not help resolve it alone.
Egypt s Minister of state for Legal Affairs, Mohamed Mahsoub said Egypt sincerely trusts all Arab world in helping each other in this regard.
He noted that the issue of Asset recovery is more of a political attribute and requires coordination between different state powers to confront it.
He stressed that perpetrators of corruption crimes shouldn t be left on the loose or unpunished. (QNA)
