HE Culture Minister to Launch Bait Al Hikma Center Next Week

Doha, September 10 (QNA) - HE Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari will inaugurate on 19 September Bait Al Hikma (House of Wisdom) Center, which will be located on the second floor of the Ministry's Tower. HE the Minister said in a press statement that the launch of the Center aims to commemorate the celebration of Doha Capital of Arab Culture 2010, and is a confirmation of the promise that Doha will always remain the capital of Arab culture, pointing out that the Center will be a magnet for intellectuals and artists. He added that the name of this historic structure 'House of Wisdom', founded by Harun al-Rashid and culminating under his son al-Ma'mun, will be a source of inspiration to the Center, which seeks to play a leading role in the dissemination of culture and the arts, translations of books in various knowledge. HE the Minister added that the Center's halls will host cultural seminars, poetry evenings, intellectual debates, and art galleries, as well as a forum for dialogue between cultures and rapprochement between civilizations. Dr Al Kuwari called on Qataris and expatriates to interact with the Centre to contribute to and attend its activities so that the role assigned to it can be achieved, stressing the importance of their participation in the enrichment of this new intellectual edifice. HE the Minister added that the Center is a perfect example for the role that culture should play in the progress of society in light of the prosperity and scientific progress Qatar is witnessing in various fields. This progress would not have been achieved without the wise directives of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Dr Al Kuwari underlined. He said the Center will play an important role in the development of the cultural scene in Qatar in accordance to the axis of culture in Qatar National Vision. (QNA)
