Azerbaijan, Baku, June 22 / Trend M.Aliyev /
This year at the 66th session of the UN General Assembly the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking states (TurkPA) will raise the issue of granting it an observer status, TurkPA Secretary General of Ramil Hasanov said at a press conference on Friday.
Obtaining observer status at the UN General Assembly will play an important role in the international activities of TurkPA, he said.
Hasanov also said that TurkPA is implementing an exchange programme between the parliaments of Kyrgyzstan and Turkey and its successful implementation will help to expand inter-parliamentary relations between the member countries.
In addition, he said, TurkPA intends to sign a partnership agreement with the Council of Cooperation of Turkic-speaking states.
After giving an account for the six-months of work of TurkPA, Hasanov noted that international cooperation of the structure was expanded during this period.
"During this period we have taken an active part in crucial activities and projects of the OSCE PA, the CIS PA, Council of Foreign Ministers of European countries, OIC PA, European Parliament and other international organisations. Above mentioned structures have also been involved in our projects," Hasanov said.
TurkPA was established in 2009 in Baku. It includes Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Its main purpose is mutual support for Turkic-speaking countries in international organisations, as well as sharing the experiences of legislative work. The Assembly was also established to preserve the language, culture and history of the Turkic-speaking countries, to strengthen their political, economic and cultural ties.
