Foreign Ministry: Azerbaijan has no intention to evacuate its nationals from Syria yet

Azerbaijan, Baku, June 21 /Trend S.Agayeva/
Azerbaijan has no intention of evacuating its nationals who are temporarily residing in Syria, foreign ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev told Trend on Thursday.
He said according to the Azerbaijani embassy in Syria, the presence of those citizens in that country is safe.
Currently about 30 students who are studying in religious schools are registered at the embassy. Azerbaijani citizens temporarily working in Syria have returned to their homeland as the terms of their contracts have expired.
With regard to the situation in Syria, the Azerbaijani foreign ministry has repeatedly called on Azerbaijani citizens to be extremely cautious in the country through the Embassy which is in contact with them.
The Russian authorities have begun preparations to evacuate their citizens from Syria in the event of aggravation of conflicts in the country, or a foreign military intervention. This was reported by the newspaper Vedomosti, quoting its own sources in law enforcement agencies.
Clashes between government forces and opponents of the regime of President Bashar al-Assad of Syria have been continuing since March 2011. More than 15,000 people have been killed during this time.
In June, the UN said there is a civil war in Syria. The West led by the United States insists that Assad should resign and does not exclude foreign military intervention to stop the killing of civilians. At the same time, Russia and China oppose such a plan.
