Turkmen new ambassador arrives in Uzbekistan

Shiri Shiriev has been appointed as Turkmen Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Uzbekistan instead of Soltan Pirmuhamedov who has completed his diplomatic mission. Shiriev presented his credentials to the Foreign Minister on Friday, the Foreign Ministry reported.
The state and future directions of bilateral cooperation were discussed during a conversation. It was emphasized that regular Uzbek-Turkmen dialogue at the highest level is the basis of sustained and dynamic development of the whole complex of inter-state relations, the Foreign Ministry said.
A package of the legal documents, consisting of more than 155 international treaties signed at the international, intergovernmental and interdepartmental levels is the basis of the Uzbek-Turkmen cooperation. The trade relations are governed by an intergovernmental agreement on the main areas of long-term trade and economic cooperation, signed in January 1996.
Mutual trade turnover steadily increases. According to the Uzbek State Statistics Committee, as of 2011, the Uzbek-Turkmen trade turnover increased by 1.7 times - up to $ 460 million. The sides cooperate in the transport-communication area. Great importance has been attached to the implementation of joint program of cooperation in cultural and humanitarian sphere for 2011-2013.
The sides also discussed the regional issues, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.
