China imports about 30 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas

Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, June 5 / Trend, H. Hasanov /
Since the commissioning of Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China gas pipeline in December 2009, it transported over 30 billion cubic meters of gas, China National Petroleum Corp said in a statement on Tuesday.
The Central-Asian gas pipeline with a design capacity of 30 billion cubic meters was built by CNPC which allowed Turkmenistan to expand sales markets, previously limited by supplies to Russia and Iran.
Ashgabat and Beijing recently agreed to increase capacity of supplies twice. The document was signed late last year during Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov's state visit to the People's Republic of China.
CNPC operates in Turkmenistan based on an exclusive Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) to develop Bagtyyarlyk land field in the Lebap region of the country. The Turkmen government will conclude all other PSAs with foreign companies only on offshore blocks in the Caspian Sea.
