Hillary Clinton discusses upcoming elections with Georgian opposition

Georgia, Tbilisi, June 5 /Trend N.Kirtzkhalia/
The main theme of the meeting between the Georgian opposition and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was the upcoming parliamentary elections in Georgia.
Clinton showed great knowledge of the situation in Georgia, leader of the New Right David Gamkrelidze said after the meeting.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the three opposition parties - the Georgian Dream party of Bidzina Ivanishvili, although the billionaire himself wasn't at the meeting, the Christian Democratic Party and the New Rights Party.
Gamkrelidze said the U.S. Secretary of State herself said that there is a problem with the freedom of the press, the use of administrative resources by the authorities and the presence of fear in Georgia.
"She stressed that only the people of Georgia have the right to vote and everybody must obey the will of the people and all parties will have to respect that choice," he said.
Gamkrelidze expressed the hope that the time of a multi-party system will soon be established in Georgia and that the power of the 'national' is not replaced by the power of the Georgian Dream which wants to go to Parliament by an absolute majority.
Representative of Georgian Dream coalition David Usupashvili said Clinton has been given objective and complete information from the U.S. Embassy.
"She knows the problems with Ivanishvili's citizenship and believes that all people born in the territory of the country can get citizenship of the country by international standards and this position is quite clear," he stressed.
Usupashvili also expressed satisfaction with the position of Clinton on future elections. As she said according to him, that concrete measures to ensure fair and transparent elections will be proposed to the Georgian authorities.
"We were promised that monitoring will be established during the pre-election period and during the elections," he said.
Georgian opposition thanked the U.S. for its support of Georgia on its path towards NATO.
