Georgia, Azerbaijan establish joint working group to prepare bid for Euro 2020

Georgia, Tbilisi, June 1 / Trend N.Kirtzkhalia / Georgia and Azerbaijan will establish within 10 days a joint working group to prepare until June 30 a joint bid to UEFA for holding Euro 2020, president of Georgian Football Federation (GFF) Zviad Sichinava and president of Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA) Rovnag Abdullayev said on Friday at a joint press conference in Batumi. The press conference was preceded by a meeting between leaders of the two countries' football bodies behind closed doors. Sichinava stressed that during the meeting they discussed the specific issues - venues of games, logos and other things which will be solved by the created group. Abdullayev noted that during a meeting they discussed the issue of co-hosting the final round of Euro 2020. Both Sichinava and Abdullayev are optimistic about the possibility of co-hosting Euro at a high level. They both stressed that the authorities of Georgia and Azerbaijan are ready to help fully in the development of football infrastructure. This is the first meeting at the level of federations' presidents after initiation of the idea of co-hosting by these two countries of Euro 2020. This thought was expressed by President Saakashvili in his speech in the Azerbaijani parliament during his visit to Baku this year.
