M`SIA IS 2ND LARGEST FOREIGN INVESTOR IN PAKISTAN IN JULY, AUG
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- Malaysia emerged second largest foreign
investor in Pakistan, with investments totalling US$205.9 million in July and
August, the Pakistan Board of Investment said in a data release Friday.
In the first two months of the 2008/2009 financial year, total foreign
investments inflow touched US$643.2 million vis-a-vis US$312.2 million last
year, registering 105 per cent increase.
The largest foreign direct investment (FDI) in Pakistan between July and
August was in the communications sector at US$251.8 million, followed by
financial business (US$458.9 million), oil and gas (US$78.6 million) and power
sector (US$34.1 million), it said.
There has been consistent increase in FDI inflow between 2001 and 2002, it
said.
Total FDI in the 2008-2009 financial year stood at US$754.1 million,
reflecting investor confidence in Pakistan's economy and the country's lucrative
investment regime.
