Qatar Flower Show Attracts Over 9,000 People

Doha, March 31 (QNA) - The annual tradition showcasing the artistry of homegrown plants featured at the Qafco Qatar Flower and Vegetable Show 2012 opened yesterday at the Al Banush Club in Mesaieed with over 9,000 people coming in droves to witness the big show. The event, sponsored by Qatar Fertilizer Company, marked the 25th anniversary of the show. It was inaugurated by Qafco chairman Abdulaziz al-Malki. The show featured displays ranging from intricate vegetable and flower arrangements to artistic creations designed out of butter, bread, seeds and recycled items. Organizers have noted a bigger celebration this year with 45 percent increase in the participation from the more than 400 competitors with about 5,000 exhibits on display sprawled around the tables. The flower arrangement competition for ladies in the amateur category and open at the professional category added color to the event. Most of the displays were based on themes related to nature, the environment, education and Qatar s Olympic bid. Just like in the past, the jam-packed crowd enjoyed watching the array of competitions for more than a hundred categories in flowers, vegetables, fruits, pot plants, flower arrangement, vegetable/fruit carving, butter carving and even ice sculpture.
