Iran self-sufficient in irrigation, agricultural machinery production

Tehran, Oct 5, IRNA -- Iran has attained self-sufficiency in manufacturing irrigation equipment and agricultural machinery.

Announcing this, deputy minister of Agriculture Jihad for water, soil
and industries affairs Farid Ejlali told IRNA Saturday that Iran is
one of the forerunners in the production of equipment for under-
pressure irrigation. Not to mention that it is capable of
manufacturing agricultural tools and machinery, he added.

According to him, Iran is also self-sufficient in agricultural
technology, he noted.

Stating that agriculture sector needs 20,000 tractors and 1,100
combines each year, Ejlali said that now the country is able to meet
the needs and the ministry has issued permission for exporting tractors.

Referring to the second national exhibition on irrigation equipment
and agriculture machinery in Karaj from October 7-10, he said that it
will provide an opportunity to present local achievements and promote
technical level of those involved in agricultural production.

The event, which is to be attended by 100 local companies, will be
organized by the private sector in an area of 2,400 square meters.

Four specialized discussion panels and seven scientific and applied
workshops will be held on the sidelines of the exhibit.

Noting that the first edition of the event was warmly welcomed last
year, Ejlali further said that the third round will be organized at
the international level next year.
