FM to explain Thailand's updated situation to int'l community
BANGKOK, January 19 (TNA) – Thai Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul said Thursday that his ministry will explain Thailand's updated situation to the international community, insisting that everything in the country generally remains normal.
In response to travelling warnings against Thailand issued by four more nations, while 14 countries, including the Unites States, maintaining their similar warnings, Surapong told reporters that the Thai government, through his ministry, needs to provide updated and proper information to the countries and the world community.
Surapong assured that agencies concerned can fully and effectively take care of national security and safety of both locals and international visitors to Thailand, noting that he has assigned Department of Information Director General Thani Thongphakdi, who is also his ministry's spokesman, to explain the country's updated situation to the 18 nations.
Washington first issued a warning for US citizens to beware of possible terrorist attacks in Thailand, particularly from January 13-15, which was followed suit by the other nations. Thai security officers have arrested and detained a suspected Lebanese terrorist and have been on high alert and kept their close watches on latest developments. (TNA)
