Vinacomin seeks permits for power supply system

Hanoi (VNA) - The Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group
(Vinacomin) has proposed that the Government allow it to construct a power
supply system from its existing power plants to serve its coal mines in
northern Quang Ninh province.

The proposal was made after Vinacomin's coal production was severely
affected by a series of power cuts, particularly in the third quarter of
this year.

Power cuts not only affect coal production but can also pose a danger to
coal miners, Vinacomin said, citing a total of 806 blackouts at 21 coal
production establishments between June 1 to July 14 2008.

Vinacomin is the owner of two operational thermo-electric power plants and a
series of power projects with a total output capacity of 1,000 MW.-
